Understanding weave types

Plain, Dutch, twilled and twilled Dutch constructions.

Plain weave

Each lengthwise wire alternates over and under the cross wires. The intersections form a regular, square structure.

Different wire sizes in the two directions produce fine openings. The source describes this construction primarily as filter cloth.

Cross wires pass over and under pairs of lengthwise wires. Staggering the pattern creates visible diagonal lines.

Combines the paired crossings of twill with the differing wire sizes of Dutch weave, producing a fine filtering structure.
